WEYMOUTH V STALBRIDGE

SEASIDERS’ skipper Kieron Womble is eager to get back to winning ways as his side head into a crunch encounter with Stalbridge at Redlands tomorrow (1pm).

Womble’s men fell to an agonising 157-run loss to Poole last weekend and in turn relinquished top spot in the Premier One table.

And with the league set to split in three games for its end-of-season finale, Womble is targeting two more wins to book his side’s place in the league’s upper reaches.

He told Echosport: “It was very disappointing last week, we just weren’t up to it. I wasn’t at the races myself but we are looking forward to this week to put things right.

“This is a game for the guys to prove themselves, if we win this one we take a huge step towards securing that top-four place.

“It’s crunch time now, there are three games left and realistically we have to win two of them.

“Last week was a blip but I am still very proud of everyone’s efforts this year, we just need to carry on.”

Dan Hutchens and Will McKay are set to return but a finger injury to Neil Walton sustained last weekend rules him out.

Commenting on Stalbridge, who still have hopes of a top-four spot themselves, Womble added: “They are a very good team and it will be close but hopefully we can come out on top.

“Home advantage is very crucial in these games, we will be looking for some decent weather. It’s a huge game so hopefully we can get it in.

“Everyone in this team has played enough cricket and they know how important this is. I will drum it into them before the game but I think everyone is going to be up for it and everyone wants to win.”
