TIM Sills is set to face a club he helped gain promotion to the Football League, as the Terras test themselves at home against Torquay United this evening (7.45pm).

The striker scored a famous goal for the Gulls in their 2009 Conference play-off final victory over Cambridge United at Wembley, the 2-0 win securing the Devon club a spot back in the big time.

The 34-year-old, pictured, has fond memories of that header, in a game which current Gulls’ boss Chris Hargreaves opened the scoring.

“Normally I remind myself about it, it’s a good little ego boost and it’s something certainly that I will never forget,” he told Echosport.

“It was the most special time of my career and it will be special to play against them, especially with Chris as the manager there.

“Last season there were only three or four people at the club that I knew but I will recognise a lot of the fans who will make the journey up, so that will be nice.”

Looking forward to his time with the Terras, Sills is positive about how things are shaping up for the club in pre-season.

And he believes that as long as the side remains grounded they could be a force in this year’s Southern Premier League.

He added: “Everything is going really well in terms of how we are playing, how results are going and how we are bonding, which is just as important in pre-season as anything else.

“It’s just a case of keeping our feet on the ground and realising that pre-season ultimately counts for nothing, but hopefully it will give us a good grounding to have a successful season.

“We have played some strong teams and against the teams that are weaker than us we have been as professional as possible, scored as many goals as we could, and played as well as we could, as well as getting fitness out of it.

“The new assistant-manager Craig Laird has come in and he says that every team should be aspiring to win the league, otherwise there is no point.

“That should be no different with us, if we go for the championship and fall just short we make sure we are in the play-offs.”

And with the frontman having grabbed two goals already in friendly fixtures for Weymouth, he is hoping they will be the first of many more to come.

He said: “It’s always nice to score against anyone. If it’s against Torquay I will take that but a goal is a goal and as many of them as possible would be nice.”
