TOM Robson produced a superb performance to win the Weymouth Golf Club Championship, adding the title to the County Championship he won earlier in the season.

Robson, who finished the 36 holes with a one-under-par toal of 139, was a shot off the pace after round one.

Luke Bartlett finished the first 18 holes with a round of 70, including a nightmare seven on the last.

In more pleasant conditions, Robson then carded a solid 68 to beat Jon Welch.

Welch returned a disappointing 78 in the morning, but produced the round of the day with a gross 66 in the afternoon.

Luke Maddison, with rounds of 76 and 72, followed in former Weymouth youngster Paul Casey’s footsteps by winning the Junior Club Championship.

Billy Hathway won the Handicap event with nett scores of 69 and 66, and club captain Steve King won the Secretary’s Putter trophy with a nett 64.

Hathway also continued his great form to win the Dorset County Boys’ Handicap Champio-nship with nett rounds of 68 and 65 at Ferndown.

The junior team also finished in a creditable third position at the end of the day.

Ladies’ Captain’s Day was also a fantastic success with wall-to-wall sunshine.

Bacon and cheese baps were served on the ninth hole with a delightful choice of beverages from Pimm’s, wine and cider to a variety of soft drinks.

Carol Freeman, Sharon Rand and Jean Vile sealed the team Stableford, winning with 90 points.

On top of that success, Rand also won the Sergeants’ Cup with a nett score of 66.

The ladies’ friendly away match with Bridport resulted in a draw.

AFTER a satisfying home win against Bridport, Team One, under captain for the day Derrick Howe, went to Knighton Heath on what proved to be the hottest day of the year so far.

The conditions ended up proving too much for the weakened team.

After a promising start with two game wins, they faltered to a disappointing 4-2 loss.
