TERRAS 1 GLOUCESTER CITY 1

WEYMOUTH ensured their pre-season campaign finished without defeat at the Bob Lucas Stadium today, as they played out a 1-1 draw with Conference North outfit Gloucester City.

With the first real chance of the contest, Gloucester midfielder Scott Wilson skipped away from his man and poked the ball past Terras’ boss Jason Matthews to open the scoring on six minutes.

But the home side were given a gift to get back into the game four minutes later.

City keeper Mike Green fumbled a ball that was flicked on at the edge of his box, allowing skipper Stewart Yetton the opportunity to roll the equaliser into an empty net.

Matthews was then called upon five minutes before half time as he beat the ball away to deny Adam Mann from giving the visitors the lead, as the sides went in level at the interval.

George Rigg then came close to adding to the two goals he scored against Torquay United last time out, but his rasping volley was well parried and minutes later Yetton could only find the side netting from close range.

And after Matthews sharply stopped a powerful effort from City replacement Elliott Chamberlain, former Magpies’ man Chamberlain then saw his header cleared off the line in the final minute.

The result means that the Terras have secured their unbeaten status going into their first league clash against Hungerford next Saturday.
