WEYMOUTH Swimming Club held their annual 50m sprint trophy gala for their club swimmers aged 11 and over.

The event was run in seeded heats for butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

Lauren Allan broke a club record that had stood since 1999 in the 50m backstroke.

Allan and Katie Ninham swam personal bests in all four events, and Jemma Brunell and Chloe Calton secured three best times in total.

The overall fastest freestyle competitors who took home separate trophies were Allan in the senior girls and Joshua Brunell in the senior boys.

Katie Ninham and Nial Turner took the junior boys’ and girls’ crowns respectively.

The competitors challenged for trophy positions in four age categories.

As ever, the competition was closely fought, bringing out the best in the swimmers, many of who achieved new personal bests.
