BRIDPORT 0 MELKSHAM TOWN 3

BEES’ Boss Trevor Senior bemoaned his team’s languid start to the season following their 3-0 home defeat to Melksham Town.

Lapses in the Bridport defence cost them a chance of getting anything from the encounter, in which Senior believes they were well and truly off the boil.

“You think pre-season has gone well, everybody is up for it but it was just a bit of a damp squib.” He told Echosport.

“We didn’t play anywhere near like we can and all three goals were sloppy goals to concede.”

Going in at the break 2-0 behind, the introduction of Matt Morley just short of the hour mark added some impetus to the Bees’ cause, but when visitors Melksham added a third 10 minutes later, Senior’s men were condemned to a deflating defeat.

“The substitutes did well when they came on but most of our players were just below par for some reason,” Senior added.

“We had no touch, didn’t win headers. They (Melksham) weren’t as strong as I thought they were going to be, just an average Western League side really.

“We didn’t defend as well as we should, I have said we need to improve on our number of clean sheets and we let too many goals in.

“I am disappointed and so are the lads because they know they didn’t perform how we can, but it’s the first of 36 games and we just have to try and bounce back.

“We will have to have a look at it on Wednesday and those who did start may be having a look over their shoulder, I think.”
