BRIDPORT will be looking to kick-start their Western League campaign when they travel to Devon-based Buckland Athletic tonight (7.45pm).

The Bees were thumped 3-0 by Melksham at home on Saturday in their opening contest, but boss Trevor Senior is confident his side can bounce back.

He said: “The players shouldn’t need too much firing up, they didn’t perform on Saturday so they must have a game in the bank for us.

“Buckland are always decent and it is always difficult to get a result down there, but it’s a nice set up and we haven’t just become a bad side after just one game.”

Hosts Buckland finished one place above Senior’s side last season, and started their campaign with a 4-2 home win over Winterbourne United at the weekend.

And While Senior expects to name a similar squad for tonight’s encounter, he will have to find a new goalkeeper over the coming weeks as stopper Sam Filkins revealed he is going to work in America for a spell later this month.

The Bees’ chief added: “Sam is a good keeper and he will always be welcomed back to the club.”
