WEYMOUTH Parkrun is marking its first anniversary and organisers are inviting runners to celebrate with them on Saturday, August 30.

The Parkrun is a free 5k run around Lodmoor Country Park, starting from the entrance to the park near the go-karts at 9am.

Co-event directors Michael Wilkinson, above, and Lindsay Hole have been delighted with the take-up of competitors over the past year.

Wilkinson said: “We want all those runners who have taken part once or maybe twice to come and join us again along with their friends for the anniversary run on August 30.

“In over 50 events we have had more than 5,000 individual participant runs, and more than 1,000 runs made by ‘first-timers’, and more than 700 runs made by competitors under 20 years of age.

Hole added: “It just shows that the community of Weymouth has taken the Parkrun to heart, and it will only grow from here on.

“If you want to meet new friends, improve your fitness and well-being, go to parkrun.org.uk for more info and to register.

“It’s free, come along with your personal barcode and take part in this fantastic Weymouth community event, you will not regret it.

“Huge thanks go to Team Dorset Athletics Network and Active Dorset for their help.

“Weymouth Parkrun has had fantastic support from Parkrun UK, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, Darren at the Pitch & Putt in Lodmoor plus all the local running clubs including Dorset Sole Sisters, Maiden Newton Runners, Weymouth St Paul’s Harriers and Egdon Heath Harriers.”
