BRIDPORT 254 (20pts) beat HAMWORTHY RECREATION SECONDS 208 (10pts) by 46 runs

AN eighth-wicket partnership of 119 between father-son duo Rod and Duane Gay ultimately proved to be the difference between these two sides at the Brewery Ground.

In an end-of-season game with just pride to play for, the hosts determined their batting order by pulling names out of a hat – and that appeared to have backfired when they were reduced to 67-7.

However, skipper Duane and dad Rod rescued the innings, going on to make 76 and 56 respectively in a total of 254 all out.

Cerne Iverson (25), Mark Smith (13), Jamie Dolman (19) and Mark Tozer (27no) also made useful contributions as the visitors were set 255 to win.

In reply, Gordon Frazier (112) made his third century in three weeks and 14-year-old Isaac Beaglehole scored 52, but Liam Toohil took 5-26 and his skipper 3-33 to give Bridport a 46-run victory.

“It was a bit worrying when we were 67-7,” said Duane Gay. “But me and my dad managed to put on 119 and a couple of the other guys added some runs at the end.

“Jamie Dolman was playing his first game of the season and he scored a quickfire 19 before being run out.

“It was a good team performance, everyone wanted it in the field, and Liam bowled a great spell.”

Bridport’s last game of the season in Division Three is at home to Broadstone Thirds on Saturday.
