THE cadets at Weymouth Sailing Club will be having their last on-the-water session for the season.

It has been a particularly good year this year with only two of the weekly sailing sessions needing to be cancelled due to the weather.

The last session also marks the end of an era for long-term cadet Alice Perrett, 18, who was very young when she first joined.

She has developed her sailing skills over the years and more recently has assisted with the evening sessions.

At this final session of the season, cadet leaders Phil and Daphne Samways will not be available and Perrett has been deputised to run it.

She is due to go to Plymouth University later this year and said: “Having gained so much from being a member over the years, it is a great opportunity to give something back and I hope that it will be a very good evening.

“It will be with mixed feelings that I will be moving on but I hope that I will still be able to help out during holiday times.”

Once the on-the-water sessions come to an end, there will be a range of shore-based activities for the cadets to participate in from theory sessions to social and fundraising events.
