SAM Lanahan has emphasised just how much a win can do for a team in Dorchester Town’s position.

The Magpies’ FA Cup victory at Yate last weekend was their first taste of success since they beat Hereford 3-0 in the league on August 16.

That cup triumph seven days ago ended a disappointing run of results which has seen the county town outfit fall to 18th place in the Southern Premier League.

And for Lanahan, it was exactly what the squad and club needed after a difficult time on and off the pitch.

“Results haven’t really gone our way but we all knew it was going to be a tough league,” he told Echosport.

“I think some of the players have found it harder than they thought it would be.

“Hopefully that cup win will turn the tables round now and we have got more confidence because of it.

“Everyone was a bit happier than they have been after Saturday.

“Like the manager said, winning puts a smile on people’s faces and that’s a major part of the game.

“People play better when they are enjoying their football.

“No-one likes losing and when you do it ruins your weekend.”

Lanahan has again had to adapt his game to play in more than one position this season.

And on his own form this term, he added: “I’ve played pretty much everywhere and I’m happy to do that for the team.

“The one thing I always do is give 100 per cent and my work rate is what I pride myself on.

“I can have a few bad touches in a game but you can’t knock someone if they are working hard.”

Dorchester will need to be on their game today when Hungerford Town visit the Avenue (3pm) in Graham Kemp’s first home match as boss.

n Elsewhere, Portland United Reserves’ scheduled clash against Chickerell United today has been postponed with the Blues unable to raise a side.
