WEST Dorset water polo members represented Dorset in three age groups at the Inter Regional Championships, held at Millfield School and organised by England talent coach James Baker.

The under-13s, featuring Luke Wheeler (Dorchester Middle School), Cameron Robinson and George Green (both St Os-mund’s), saw off Devon in their first game.

Wheeler scored a hat-trick in the victory and both Robinson and Green also found the net.

The team then had to beat Gloucestershire, who had lost to Devon, to lift the tournament trophy.

And they did just that, coming out on top in the final quarter at the end of a hard-fought en-counter.

Dorset’s Under-17s, including Cam Dabbs (Thomas Hardye) had a less prosperous day, coming third behind Gloucestershire and winners Devon.

Afternoon matches saw Dorset’s Under-15s, with West Dorset’s Harry Wheeler and Olivia Foice (both Thomas Hardye), take to the pool.

Their first match against Devon was a somewhat messy affair with an exclusion unsettling the squad.

After losing that, Dorset’s clash with Gloucestershire was one they definitely had to win.

Dorset took charge with some excellent tactical play and stunning shooting, and they ran out comfortable winners.

Wheeler’s five goals in the tournament helped Dorset to second place behind Devon.
