GRAHAM Kemp has urged his Dorchester Town squad to keep their focus for what is a golden opportunity to progress in the FA Cup away at Abingdon United tomorrow (3pm).

The Magpies, who have won their first two games with Kemp in the hot-seat, will lock horns with the Oxfordshire outfit, who overcame Milton United 3-0 to book their place in the second qualifying round.

Tomorrow’s hosts are failing to light up the Hellenic Premier League at present, with just seven points and six goals coming from nine games played, but Kemp does not expect the contest to be a forgone conclusion.

He told Echosport: “I think if you looked at the draw you would say it has been favourable to us but unfortunately we have one or two missing, so we need to make sure we focus.

“We have had them (Abingdon) watched and they are the level that I am used to managing at. They are quite a physical side and they will be hard to beat.

“We should be favourites and if we impose ourselves on them then we will win the game, but if we drop five per cent from the last two games there could be an upset.

“You can’t just pick and choose when you play well, and the attitude needs to be right, if I get any sense of mucking around or taking it too lightly then I will be having words.”

A number of the Avenue manager’s squad will be missing tomorrow, with Jake Smeeton suspended, Micky Hubbard cup tied, Kyle Critchell unavailable and Oakley Hanger nursing a knee injury he picked up last weekend.

And with an extra quota of substitutes available for the cup, Kemp is set to bring in a number of faces from the reserves’ ranks. Alex Godfrey, Luke Brown, Tony Rolls, Kieron Parrett, Luke Woodland and Sam Old could all be included in the travelling party.

He added: “The easiest thing in the world would be to go out and sign four people on loan but I don’t feel that sends out the right signal to the reserves and the youth team.

“It will give them a taste of the first team, whether they get on or not they have to be focused, ready to go and take their chance.

“Everyone expects us to win so we have an awful lot to lose, we have to make sure we are on it from the first minute.”
