WIMBORNE 73 DORCHESTER 7

FOR the second time in three weeks, Dorchester were on the wrong end of a heavy defeat in Southern Counties South.

After their 59-9 thrashing by Swanage & Wareham on the opening day of the season, and a 20-5 reverse against Walcot on match day two, the county town team have conceded more than 150 points in their first three fixtures.

They suffered an early setback at Wimborne when a stray pass ended up in opposition hands and the hosts scored the encounter’s opening try in the right-hand corner.

However, Dorchester then took control of the game and camped in the Wimborne 22.

James Baker missed two relatively straight forward penalty attempts before a well-timed pass from Alex Toms put Lee Harvey over for the visitors.

An excellent conversion from Baker put Dorchester in front, however, they were unable to maintain their level of play and the hosts were soon back on top.

As in previous games, Dorch-ester’s scrum and line-out was working well though they were losing the battle in the loose.

Several quick Wimborne scores followed and the result was decided by half-time.

With Wimborne’s confidence now sky high, Dorchester knew they were in for a torrid second 40 minutes, and so it proved, with the hosts running in tries at regular intervals throughout the half.

To their credit, Dorchester tried their best but were unable to slow their opponents down and they ended the game on the wrong end of 73-7 hiding, which leaves them without a point in the league standings.

Dorchester are in Dorset & Wilts Cup action this Saturday when they go to Swanage & Wareham.
