YOUNG Weymouth footballers are stepping out in a stylish new kit thanks to sponsorship from a leading law firm.

The Tiny Terras – a Weymouth FC under-8 team – have been sponsored by Battens Solicitors through its charitable trust for the next two seasons.

Players from the side are tackling their first league season with the Battens name emblazoned across their chests.

Under-7s and 8s player development manager Paul Tapper, whose son Caleb plays in goal, said: “Having a stylish new kit and a sponsor makes such a difference.

“Our great thanks go to Battens for all of their support.”

Mum Sheena Buckland, whose son Josh is in the team, added: “The lads all love playing and the new kit makes them feel like a proper team.”

The Tiny Terras have been kitted out in shirts, socks and shorts in the same colours as their parent club, Weymouth FC.

The deal also includes funding for Weymouth FC, including sponsorship of a number of games throughout the season.

To recognise this, a new sign is being revealed at the club.

Tony Greaves, who is Weymouth FC vice-chairman and a director of the club, said: “It is great to see a local business supporting the club and youth football in this way.”

Battens set up its charitable trust in 1985 to support community initiatives, local charities and other causes.

Cherise Luke-Bennett, who is in charge of Battens’ Weymouth office and is joint head of the family team, said: “Grassroots football is just the sort of initiative the Battens Charitable Trust has been set up to support.

“The Tiny Terras sponsorship is a fantastic opportunity to help such an enthusiastic group of children take part in something they clearly enjoy.

“We wish them every success in the coming season and hope they will score lots of goals in their new kit.”
