TERRAS’ chairman Chris Pugsley has revealed there is a clear favourite out of two potential locations for the club’s new ground.

Pugsley would not disclose the whereabouts of the pieces of land being looked at but did confirm they were both in the Weymouth area.

He did, however, tell Echosport that the site at Lodmoor was not one of them.

Plans to build up to 170 houses at the Bob Lucas Stadium were approved on Thursday, but only on the proviso that building won’t start until the club is relocated.

Terras’ chiefs will continue to work with developers Wessex Delivery as they look to secure a site for a new stadium.

Speaking about potential locations, Pugsley said: “It’s a case of finding a location now and we have a couple of options that are favourable to us.

“A few options have been thrown around but there are two we are looking at.

“They are good locations in the Weymouth area and we’ll be hoping to put planning permission in for one within the next three months.

“They are not a million miles apart and all parties seem to be keen on one more than the other.

“There will be meetings now to get the piece of land we want and then we will get an architect to develop a stadium.

“I don’t see us returning to the Lodmoor option and I think that’s probably in the past now.”

And on the decision to approve Wessex Delivery’s application, he added: “We’ve got the green light to move on and things are definitely going in the right direction.

“We are very happy and it’s fantastic for the football club and the town.

“It was fantastic at the meeting to see the councillors’ hands go up in favour of the application.

“We couldn’t have asked for anything more, it was exactly what we wanted.

“It was a big relief to all of us and I’d like to thank Alan Pepperell and Gareth Jones for the effort they have put in.”

Ade MacDonald, chairman of the Weymouth Supporters Association, was also pleased at the latest development.

He said: “It’s a giant step forward and hopefully this will facilitate developing a new ground.”

Any new plans would have to be run past West Dorset District Council for approval, even though the planning application would be determined by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
