ASHLEY Weeks’ second-half penalty save prevented Bristol Manor Farm from pinching all three points at St Mary’s Field on Saturday.

Bridport boss Trevor Senior felt it would have been an injustice if the visitors had won the game after being outplayed for large portions of the contest.

The Farm had gone into the match leading the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, but they ended the day second following Brislington’s victory over Hallen.

Now unbeaten in three league outings, Bridport sit ninth in the table going into their Dorset Senior Cup tie at home to Sherborne Town tomorrow (7.30pm).

Reflecting on his side’s draw on Saturday, Senior said: “We deserved to win it.

“We played very well in the first half and made them look ordinary.

“We created enough chances to come in at half-time two or three goals up.

“The only save Ashley Weeks had to make throughout the whole game was from the penalty after about an hour.

“It would have been a bit of an injustice if they had scored and gone on to win it.”

He added: “They were top of the league and it showed that we are not far away from them.”

Ryan Dovell went close for the home side with a first-half header that found the gloves of the visitors’ keeper.

A breakdown in communication then nearly resulted in a Farm defender putting through his own net, before Chris Clarke struck the post with a shot that looked destined for the top corner.

The Bristol outfit improved slightly after the break and were given a great chance to take the lead on 61 minutes.

However, having been awarded a penalty for a foul by Matt Condliffe, the visitors were denied when Weeks saved Billy Downes’ spot-kick.

The Bees had a couple of half-chances towards the end to snatch the points themselves.

First, Matt Morley ran with the ball across the edge of the Farm box, though when he came to shoot there wasn’t enough power in his effort to trouble the keeper.

Striker Warren Byerley then did all he could to reach a corner but his header went over the bar.
