BRIDPORT 0 SHERBORNE TOWN 1

BRIDPORT failed to take their chances to progress in the Dorset Senior Cup, as they were edged out by rivals Sherborne at St Mary’s Field.

Having beaten their visitors in the league earlier this season, Trevor Senior’s men fell behind on 21 minutes when Zebras’ Hayden Hodges looped an effort over Ashley Weeks in the Bees’ goal to make it 1-0.

Sherborne nearly doubled their lead when Steve Burton’s strike hit the crossbar in a lacklustre opening period for the home side. The closest the Bees came to levelling the contest came just short of the hour mark when Matt Condliffe’s 20-yard shot ricocheted off a post to safety.

Following the defeat, Bridport manager Senior said: “I was disappointed because with the way have been playing recently we just didn’t turn up in the first half.

“They were up for it more than us it seemed, they were sharper around the pitch and we didn’t pick up the runner when we went 1-0 down.

“We created enough chances in the second half to get a result but it wasn’t to be and hopefully it will be a wake-up call for Saturday because it is a big game for us.”

The Bees will now turn their attentions to their trip to Calne Town in the first round proper of this season’s FA Vase.

Bees: Weeks, Condliffe, Clarke, Evans, Stewart, Ry Hayter, A Symes (Dovell 69), Wise (J Filkins 69), Byerley (Richardson 12), J Symes, Morley.
