LAND Registry took the honours in the top-of-the-table clash against Budmouth A in Division One of the Weymouth & District League.

Mark Heasman got Land Reg-istry off to a good start with a 3-1 win over Tom Cherry, before Tom’s sister Lily beat the league’s junior co-ordinator Andy Millar.

Continuing the family connections, Andy’s son Sam defeated league chairman Neil Hardisty to put Budmouth ahead.

After Heasman’s second success, this time against Lily Cherry, Millar Snr got the better of Millar Jnr.

Further victories for Tom Cherry and Sam Millar put Budmouth 19-16 in front going into the final singles match and the doubles.

Unfortunately for the youngsters, the experience of Hardisty in the singles and then Millar Snr and Heasman in the doubles gave them two 3-0 wins and a 22-19 overall victory to stay top of the table.

In the only other match in the top division, Colliton X beat Red Triangle 21-14.

Division Two continues to be topped by Budmouth’s B and C teams, who both had good wins again this week.

In a close local derby, Preston A got their first success of the season with a 23-17 triumph over Preston B.

Roger Lovell of the A team won all his matches to set up the result, but Ros Page, Peter Stopforth and Josh Harman of the B team all registered wins to set up a close finish.

Meanwhile, Shipton Gorge B had a comfortable 28-8 victory over Colliton C in Dorchester.

In Division Three, Tony Dobbs had won six out of six matches for Wyke D before their tie with Budmouth D.

However, he was not available for the match and that may have proved the difference as Wyke narrowly lost to a new set of up and coming youngsters from Budmouth.

Will Jolliffe won all his matches and Ethan Gear chipped in with a victory while running his opponents close in his other games.

But it was rookie Eddie Knell’s battling qualities that tipped the balance in Budmouth’s favour.

Despite not winning a match, his tenacity showed as he took legs off much more experienced opponents to put his team-mates within striking distance come the doubles.

And they duly obliged with the required 3-0 victory to win the tie and go top of table.

Another tie in the division went the distance as Dan Corren and Dave Poole won their doubles 3-1 to give Shipton Gorge C a narrow win over Preston D. There were also wins for Dorset Youth B and Budmouth E.
