OLYMPIC bronze medallist Bryony Shaw overcame a shaky start on day two of the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final in Abu Dhabi to extend her advantage at the top of the RS:X windsurfing leaderboard.

Shaw finished 12th in today's first race before finding her rhythm to add two more victories to an already imposing scorecard.

The 31-year-old goes into tomorrow's third day of competition with the best possible score of five points from six races after being able to discard that 12th place.

France’s world and European champion Charline Picon remains second in the overall standings but she fell further behind Shaw after today's races.

“I feel fast, I feel fit and fresh, and I’m up for it,” said Shaw, who trains at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.

“I will just try to keep going through the same processes, trying to smash the starboard end and have good acceleration off the start line, and then take the race from there.”

In the men’s RS:X event, Weymouth’s Nick Dempsey moved up to fifth place overall and remains confident of ending the competition on a high.

“I think a medal is certainly still achievable,” he said.

“It was a difficult day where I think I made a few mistakes but have somehow managed to move up from eighth into fifth overall and not too far off the important places.”

Meanwhile, Sophie Weguelin and crew Eilidh McIntyre, from Portland, broke into the top three in the 470 class.

“In an ideal situation we would be better trained for this event, but given the circumstances we are really grateful to be out on the water,” said Weguelin, who thought she would miss the event due to illness.

“Racing against the best in the world gives us a marker of what we need to be working towards, how we can improve and where we are at in our campaign.”

In the Laser Radial event, Portland-based Alison Young dropped from second to fourth.

John Pink and Stuart Bithell are third overall in the 49er, just one point off New Zealand’s Marcus Hansen and Josh Porebski.

Racing in Lulu Bay continues tomorrow with the final medal races on Sunday.
