GRAHAM Kemp has reassured fans that he and his players are doing their best to get the Magpies’ season back on track.

Kemp is well aware of the criticism directed at him and the Dorchester squad on social media, and he admits it is difficult not to agree with a lot of what is being said.

The Magpies will hope to repair some of the damage caused by the recent defeats to Paulton and Redditch when they head to Slough Town tomorrow (3pm).

Nick Crittenden and Andy Robinson give Kemp a much-needed boost as they return from injury, while new signing Connor Doe is in the squad as well.

“I believe the team is better than when I took over, but results aren’t showing that so it’s difficult to prove,” said Kemp.

“And if the chairman said to me that he was going to get a fresh face in I couldn’t complain.

“Nobody at the club is happy with the way the results have gone and I can’t disagree with a lot of what people are saying.

“It’s never nice to constantly see people saying you’re not good enough or the players aren’t good enough.

“I appreciate the fans’ concerns and I can reassure people I’m working hard on and off the pitch to try and sort things out.

“The players are also working very hard to try and turn things around.”

However, there are some things fans are saying that Kemp says he doesn’t agree with.

He continued: “People are saying they would play Jake Smeeton here and there, but Jake isn’t available, and I’ve got my hands tied to a certain extent.”

Slough, 12th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, were held by Frome last Saturday but beat St Neots 3-0 before that.

Looking ahead to the game at Holloways Park in Buckinghamshire, the Dorchester chief said: “It’s another tough one away from home.

“It’s frustrating because I seem to be repeating myself ahead of matches.

“I’m saying all the right things to the lads but for an hour-and-a-half it doesn’t quite happen for us.

“In the two games before Tuesday we played well for long periods and it was our mistakes that cost us.”

Smeeton is still sidelined through injury but Kemp now has a fresh pair of legs to call on in Doe, who arrived on non-contract terms from Bournemouth Poppies last weekend.

He added: “Connor played for Christchurch last season and was their best player.

“We had him watched a couple of times at the Poppies and we think he is someone with a good future.

“We feel some of the squad players need to get game time at senior level, but Connor has had that experience so jumps ahead of those lads.”
