THE final round of league games before the Christmas break saw a fairly quiet week, with only eight matches played across the three divisions.

The postponed match from last week between second-placed Wyke A and leaders Land Regi-stry meant that these two teams still had 100 per cent records going into this week’s matches in Division One, and this is still the case.

Wyke A recorded a convincing win over Pilgrims A by winning all 10 legs in a 30-6 victory.

Sai Maganti, Steve White and Mike Doyle were just too strong for the Pilgrims’ trio of Stuart Walden, Tony Dobbs and Richard Willshere, although all three did take sets during the night.

Land Registry dropped only one leg in their 29-12 victory over Red Triangle.

Neil Hardisty and Steve Jackson both scored maximum points over Derrick Dawson, Mick Spracklen and Tony Reed but Spracklen did score a hard fought 3-2 win over Andy Millar to ensure that Land Registry did not take the full 30 points.

Wyke M moved up to fourth in the division with a 24-13 win over Shipton Gorge A.

Miranda Edwardes beat David Avenell to give Shipton hope after John Ryan had won the opening leg for Wyke, but the next six legs all went Wyke’s way before Shipton took the final singles leg when Eddy Buck beat Avenell.

Edwardes and Gil Roberts restored some pride in the closing doubles for Shipton by sneaking a close 3-2 win over Ryan and partner Robin Prince.

The top-of-the-table clash in Division Two between the Budmouth’s B and C teams did not quite live up to the billing, although nine of the 38 legs played went to deuce and six more were decided 11-9.

Jamie Blair of Budmouth C was involved in the two best matches of the night.

Firstly, he was up against undefeated Ben Graham and these two youngsters provided an absolute cracker of a contest with Graham winning 11-9 in the fifth leg, the first time he had been taken to five legs all season.

Blair followed this up with another brilliant performance when he came from two legs down to take the next three and beat Brad Burroughs 3-2.

Moses Lewis was the only other winner for Budmouth C on the night when he beat Daren Gra-ham 3-0.

There was another good match elsewhere in the division when Preston A took on Springfield B.

Malcolm Smith played up from Preston D because Roger Lovell was unavailable due to illness, and he scored a respectable four points, his side also secured a good win that moves them up to third in the division, just behind the Budmouth teams.

Wyke D and the students of All Saints are still topping the table in Division Three and both had dominant wins once again.

Wyke D beat third-placed Pil-grims B 28-10 with Roger Walden being the busiest player on the night.

The Wyke player was involved in three five-set singles matches, winning the first one against Alec Bailey but losing the following two to Richard Ellerby and Barry Thomas.

Fortunately for Wyke, Tony Dobbs and Ian South won all three of their singles matches to secure the win before the final doubles, which Dobbs and South also won.

Martin Singer was Dorset Youth B’s only leg winner against All Saints, recording a 3-2 victory over Hector Knight.

Luke Dadds and Ben Hannigan won all three of their singles matches before teaming up to also win the doubles to cap a good night for the youngsters.

In the game between the girls of Budmouth E and Shipton Gorge C, experience played a huge part in Shipton’s 27-7 win.
