LONGWELL GREEN SPORTS 1 BRIDPORT 0

TREVOR Senior was left to rue his side’s missed chances yet again this season, as Bridport were beaten by a solitary goal at Longwell Green Sports.

After going in at the break with the scores goalless thanks to a superb first-half save from goalkeeper Ashley Weeks, the Bees’ boss felt his side carved out enough opportunities to go on and win the game.

But Bridport, who have only scored more goals than bottom club Bishop Sutton, strugglers Hallen and Sports themselves in the Toolstation Western league this term, were undone by a Craig Wilson goal with around 20 minutes to go at the Longwell Green Community Centre.

“It was disappointing really, we had chances to win it,” Senior told Echosport.

“I thought as a group we defended well but we weren’t clinical enough with the chances we had.

“The pitch was a leveller and they worked hard. We just didn’t take the chances when they came.

“I would have said at half-time 0-0 was a fair reflection and, in the second half, I thought a mistake or something could prove that one side would go on and win it, but it was a well-taken goal.

“We threw everything at them to try and get an equaliser but had no joy.

“I think we deserved something from it but you have to stick the ball in the net and we didn’t.”

Both Tom Richardson and Jamie Filkins saw their shots cleared off the line by the home side, and Jamie Symes took a knock to the shin during the second half putting in a block which prevented Longwell Green adding a second.
