SPARKS could fly at Grove Corner tomorrow as Portland United try to find a way to reignite their campaign.

With only one win in the last four and just 10 games left, boss Gary Bailey says it is “imperative” his side rediscover their early season form, starting at home against Tintinhull (2pm).

Portland’s recent results have hit their chances of claiming a third successive Dorset Premier League title.

They sit third in the table at the moment, level on points with second-placed Hamworthy Recreation, though the Magna Road outfit have three games in hand.

Merley Cobham Sports still lead the race for the championship, but although they have a four-point advantage over Hamworthy, like Portland, they have also played three matches more.

“With just 10 games to go it’s imperative we rediscover our early season form and get ourselves out of the little dip in performances we have suffered of late,” said Blues’ chief Bailey.

“Although our general play has been okay we are lacking a spark in our game, and it is down both myself and the players to find a way to reignite it.

“A constant enforced rotation of players through unavailability certainly hasn’t helped build any momentum and I feel that’s a major factor in the lack of consistency in our play.

“Our home form has been terrific so tomorrow’s game is the ideal platform to relaunch our season.”

Carl Mutch, Alex Halloran, Lewis Clarke and Shaun Bessant are all unavailable for Portland tomorrow, though Dan Austin should return after missing last week’s draw against Westland Sports.

Tintinhull, who lost 4-0 to Portland at home last December, go into the contest on the back of an embarrassing 10-3 hiding by Parley Sports.

Fourth-placed Parley, just a point behind Portland but having played more fixtures than anyone in the top five, host Bradley Asagba’s Blandford United (2pm).

Meanwhile, Weymouth Reserves will be chasing a fourth win on the bounce in all competitions when they entertain Hamworthy United Reserves (2pm), the side they overcame 3-2 in November.

Sammy Nichols misses out for the Terras as he serves a two-game ban, while injury prevents Matt Harvey from taking his place in the matchday squad.

And while Weymouth bid to consolidate their place in the top five, their opponents will be attempting to give themselves more breathing space near the foot of the table.

They currently lie 16th of the 18 teams in the division, three points above bottom club Sturminster Marshall.
