CAME Down Golf Club members battled driving wind and rain to hold their annual Captains’ Drive-in.
Club captain Tony Howe, using the traditional persimmon wood, hit a drive measuring 182 yards, the distance guessed by Jeff Morris.
Ladies’ captain Sue Stokey drove 126 yards and seniors’ captain Stuart Sibley 181 yards.
Those distances were guessed by Peter Dobbs and Martin Crampton respectively.
The captains were congratulated for their efforts in such awful playing conditions, while the event raised more than £100 for charity.
Before the drive-in, a 10-hole cross country scramble was played with teams of four.
Result: 1 Al Rich, Stuart Chainey, Chris Ball and Mike Newbold (32.2 nett), 2 Alex Anderson, Steve Wells, Mark Bonnet and Guy Watson (32.5), 3 (acb) Declan O’Toole, Chris Howard, Mark Osbourne
