AFTER the impression that head coach Paul Harding has made since returning to Monmouth Avenue, Weymouth & Portland skipper Kevin Leatham would love to see the season go on just that little bit longer.

The seasiders have won six of the eight Dorset & Wilts Two South fixtures that Harding has overseen since he came back to the club in early January.

Victory at Bournemouth Thirds tomorrow would guarantee them fourth place in the table with only one fixture left.

And Leatham, who has known Harding for many years, is full of praise for the Weymouth & Portland chief and the impact he has made following his return.

“It has been great working with Paul again,” said Leatham. “It’s a shame the season is coming to an end because we’ve been doing so well under him and growing with every game.

“Paul is a great coach because he gets things across to the players and makes us ask questions of ourselves.

“Training is really enjoyable and he has made everyone feel involved, not just the first team.

“We have become more clinical and are now bringing our runners into the game more.

“Our defence has improved a lot and our handling has got better.

“We are also playing for the full 80 minutes and not dropping off after an hour.”

Ryan Lewendon and Joe Gibson are set to miss tomorrow’s match but Leatham is confident their replacements will be up to the task.

“We want to maintain the levels we have been producing in recent weeks,” added Leatham. “And we want to take that into next season.”

Leatham’s charges are going for a league double having beaten Bournemouth 40-13 last December.

Also in Two South, Dorchester Seconds host Salisbury Seconds, Bridport go to unbeaten champions East Dorset and Puddletown entertain Swanage & Wareham Seconds.

In Southern Counties South, title winners Swanage & Wareham take on Bradford-on-Avon at home, after which the club will unveil their new floodlights.

To mark the occasion, the Swans’ under-16 team will play their Trowbridge counterparts (7.30pm).

Elsewhere, Dorchester have a difficult job in front of them when they make the trip to second-placed Salisbury.

Meanwhile, Weymouth & Portland Seconds, who were forced to concede last Saturday’s game against Oakmeadians when they couldn’t raise a side, host Bournemouth Fourths.

All league matches kick-off at 3pm tomorrow.
