MARK Jermyn has given a forthright assessment of what Dorchester Town should be striving for over the next couple of seasons.

The Magpies have “got to be looking at the play-offs” when the 2015/16 campaign gets underway, according to the player-manager.

However, the season after that is the key one in the eyes of Jermyn, whose side go to Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division leaders Corby Town today (3pm).

“We need to set ourselves realistic goals for next season, dependant on who we are able to retain,” he said. “We’ve got to be looking at the play-offs, we’ve got to.

“I don’t care that we’ve got one of the smallest budgets, it doesn’t really bother me, I’ve got more than enough in that dressing room.

“If we make the play-offs, or end up just outside, we’ve got to realise that we’re building towards something.

“Then the following season, and I’ve spoken to Matt Lucas (club chairman) and he has said there’s going to be more of a resource that we can build around, I have to show we’re really pushing on.

“Next season I see as building towards what we want to achieve the following season, and if we don’t achieve that then it’s something I’ve got to address.”

Meanwhile, Stuart Heath stressed the importance of the run-in to the futures of individuals at the club.

“It’s a big end to the season, not just in terms of making sure we stay in the division and finish as high as we can, but for next season,” he said.

“There’s probably only two people, Mark (Jermyn) and Nick (Crittenden), assured of their positions next year and everyone else is working to keep their places.

“What we do in the next few weeks will determine which people are at the club next season.

“Mark has earmarked some players for but for others it’s about producing the goods and finishing the season strongly.”
