HAMWORTHY UNITED RES 0 BRIDPORT RES 2

A CHANGE in his side’s mentality is what Bridport manager Robin Townsend believes has inspired their impressive run of form, which continued with a triumph at Hamworthy United Reserves on Saturday.

Danny Peart set the ball rolling for the Bees in the opening period when he flashed the ball across goal to find the top corner with a little more than five minutes played.

Bridport continued to dominate throughout the opening period and, although the Hammers upped their game after the break, Townsend’s men were rarely troubled and wrapped up the game late on through striker Jack Scovell.

His sweet strike from 18 yards with around five minutes to play sailed into the net to seal all three points, and Townsend admitted he felt a sense of relief after the visitors doubled their advantage at the County Ground.

He told Echosport: “I brought the three subs on quite early in the second half to give everyone a bit of a run and it looked like I could have had egg on my face. As the game went on Hamworthy were growing into it.

“I was expecting them to just nick one but thankfully they didn’t and the second goal really settled us down.

“It should have been more and we missed some good chances.”

The win gave Bridport their fourth clean sheet on the spin in all competitions, and with the Dorset Senior Trophy final to look forward to next month the Bees’ chief believes there is a real desire and hunger from his squad at present.

He added: “Our mentality has changed slightly. Everybody is stepping up to the plate, our training has been better and everybody knows they have to work hard to play in that game.

“The general attitude is a lot better and clean sheets and winning gives you confidence.

"I have always said we are a very good football team and winning now just breeds that confidence.

“The league doesn’t lie but our attitude has been much different and I feel we've turned a corner.”
