THE Dorset Under-24 double rink team have qualified for the final of a national competition against Norfolk in Leicestershire tomorrow.

Having defeated Wiltshire and Somerset in previous rounds, Dorset showed a determination to win that has been evident all season in a titanic semi-final exchange with a star-studded Kent side, and the result enabled them to reach their third national final in six years.

Kent were considered favourites to win the semi-final, and they had the better of the early exchanges.

The Dorset rink skipped by Nick Revell, had to work hard to contain the very lively Kent skip and his rink who took an early 7-3 lead and eventually posted a 24-13 Kent success.

But the companion Dorset rink skipped by Weymouth’s England international Martin Puckett provided the counter balance.

Puckett’s group held a narrow 9-7 lead at the mid-point, leaving the overall score still four shots in the favour of Kent.

The Dorset rink then hit a purple patch winning the next seven ends to romp 21-7 ahead.

And despite the 11-shot deficit on the Revell rink, the 25-11 score obtained by Puckett’s rink won the game for Dorset.

With the county ladies’ Atherley and the men’s county Liberty teams out of their competitions, it is up to young Dorset to bring home a trophy tomorrow.
