WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1 BRIDPORT RESERVES 3

JAKE Richmond slammed his side’s performance after Weymouth Reserves fell short against Bridport Reserves at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras boss believed the Bees were much better than his men on the night, and was very disappointed by his team's display.

“I let my feelings be known afterwards and I was very disappointed that we didn’t perform like we can,” the Weymouth boss told Echosport.

“We never really hit a rhythm and they didn’t let us to be fair, we just weren’t at it.

“I thought Bridport preformed really well and, in all honesty, they probably could have won by four or five.

“We got exactly what we deserved and that was nothing. They got exactly what they deserved and that was all three points.

“What we have struggled with this year is that when the going gets tough and teams are in our faces we are a little bit soft.

“Against physical sides that are up for a battle we don’t like it, we probably don’t have the characters to dig in and get results like we did last season.”

Tristan Gale opened the scoring for the Bees with around 20 minutes gone after good work from Jack Scovell.

And Bridport’s Gale added his second of the evening following the break to double the visitors’ advantage.

Although Josh Tennant hit the bar for the hosts and Aston Butcher pulled one back to give Weymouth a lifeline, it was Townsend’s troops who wrapped up the points late on.

Following a free-kick from Gary Bulman which clipped the woodwork, Dan Baggs nodded home Gale’s delivery to make it 3-1 and seal victory for the Bees.

The win saw the visitors complete a league double over Weymouth, and the squad earned high praise from their manager Robin Townsend.

He added: “I thought we were excellent on the night.

“To get six points against a team near the top this season is very pleasing.

“It wasn’t over the top but it was physical and played in the right way. I felt we were better than them in all departments.

“There is something about evening games under the lights which make us bring our best game.”

Both sides are back in action tomorrow as Weymouth Reserves travel to Parley Sports knowing that defeat would see them slip out of the top four, while Bridport Reserves host Mere Town at St Mary’s Field (both 3pm).

Commenting on the Mere encounter, Townsend added: “They are obviously going very well but I feel we owe them one.

“We will be doing all we can to get a run going now before our cup final.”
