PARLEY SPORTS 3 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3

WEYMOUTH Reserves could not take advantage of a blistering opening 45 minutes as they were pegged back at Parley Sports on Saturday.

The sides, who played out an 11-goal thriller back in November at the Bob Lucas Stadium, put on another show for spectators sharing six goals between them in dramatic fashion.

Weymouth drew first blood after Szymon Matuszewski was brought down inside the area and Josh Tennant confidently stepped up to strike home a confident effort from the spot.

Two minutes later, Matuszewski was then in the goals himself.

He was picked out by Anthony Carlile and struck a crisp volley to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

The pair then combined once again as the Polish playmaker found Carlile with a diagonal ball and his dipping strike hit the back of the net to put Jake Richmond’s men well in command.

“The pitch was really dry and bobbly for both teams but we played really well in the first half,” the Terras’ boss told Echosport.

“We won a lot of headers and second balls, we were really at it.

“But we said at half-time that a clean sheet was the main goal and after three minutes of the second half that was out the window.”

Sports soon hit back after the interval but Aston Butcher saw his header cannon off the crossbar on 66 minutes. That would have put Weymouth 4-1 ahead.

And despite battling hard, the Terras could not prevent Parley hitting back twice more to seal a point, with the leveller coming four minutes from time.

Richmond added: “When you come in at half-time 3-0 up you expect to win the game.

“But if you had said we would go there and draw 3-3 I would have taken it because I don’t think I’ve ever won there, it’s a difficult place to go.

“It was a great game to watch and in the first half it was nice to stand there and enjoy it.

“Fair play to Parley, we knew they would come at us because they have goals in their team.

“If we had got a fourth we would have won the game but they have pace up top and the lads gave me 100 per cent and that’s all I ask them for, I couldn’t complain at all.”

The result means Weymouth stay above Parley on goal difference in fourth position in the Dorset Premier League standings.

Richmond’s men host title favourites Hamworthy Recreation at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.
