Jenkins swoops for keeper and young Terra

DORCHESTER boss Mick Jenkins beat today's transfer deadline by signing experienced Thurrock goalkeeper James Hussey and Weymouth's teenage defender/midfielder Scott Dixon.

Both have joined the Magpies on a non-contract basis until the end of the season and Jenkins has not ruled out the possibility that they might become part of his longer term plans.

The 27-year-old Hussey, who will be in Dorchester's squad for Saturday's home game against Weston-super-Mare, was in the Thurrock side beaten 3-2 on their own ground by the Magpies earlier this month. He also conceded three at the Avenue Stadium last November when the Magpies won 3-1.

"James, who is 6ft 5ins tall, knows this league well having had a lot of experience with Bishop's Stortford and Fisher Athletic before going to Thurrock and will give me good cover for Simon Evans," said Jenkins.

"He is based in Essex but is prepared to travel for both midweek and weekend games until the end of the season.

"He has become a bit disillusioned with life at Thurrock and would be available next season if things work out well."

The 18-year-old Dixon has progressed through the Terras Academy into Jason Tindall's senior squad and made his Conference debut as a substitute in the 2-1 home defeat by Stafford Rangers last month.

He has also played for Portland and Hamworthy United this season.

"He's trained with us a couple of times already and looks to be a very tidy, left-sided player," said Jenkins.

Meanwhile the Magpies' boss is also delighted to have extended the loan of Yeovil striker Gavin McCallum until the end of the season.

"Gavin is enjoying his football with us and has added a real zest to our front-line," said Jenkins. "He's given us a big lift when we needed it and hopefully he will get a few more goals before the season ends."
