LEWIS Morgan reckons promotion should be the target for Dorchester Town next season.

The 21-year-old midfielder had no hesitation in signing a one-year contract with the club earlier this week and is delighted that other members of last term’s squad did the same.

Morgan, Alan Walker-Harris, Shane Murphy, Jake Smeeton and Matt Oldring all penned deals at the Avenue on Tuesday – and Morgan feels that bodes well for a successful 2015/16 campaign.

“I’m excited about it and can’t wait to get next season started,” he said. “We finished last season well and hopefully we can do well next season.

“It’s good to get the core of the team back together and if we can keep the side we had last season then I think we will do alright.

“We’ve got a good bunch of lads who want to work hard for each other, and you don’t always find that at every club.”

Commenting further on next term, he added: “It was a shame we didn’t start last season how we finished it.

“I don’t think any of us are going to accept a repeat of how we did in the first half of last season.

“Next season is about looking at the play-offs and promotion, and it’s nice to be at a club that is ambitious.”

After leaving Dorchester to join Tiverton in October 2013, Morgan came back to the Magpies this January on a dual registration with Sherborne.

“I signed for Tiverton but that never really worked out for me,” he said. “It kind of destroyed my love for football.

"But coming back to Dorchester has reinvigorated that love for the game.

“Jem phoned me last week and asked if I wanted to sign a permanent deal, and I said yes. Dorchester is a well-run club and I knew I wanted to stay.

“The manager has got us playing some good football and he is a winner, and it’s good to have someone like that around the changing room.”
