FAMOUS Old Spa put the kybosh on Kings Arms’ hopes of completing a league and cup double at Grove Corner on Sunday.

Chris Philbrick’s Kings side were bidding to add the Len Mahoney Cup to the Weymouth Sunday League title they clinched in February.

And they looked all set to do just that as they led 2-1 going into the final few minutes of the final on Portland.

However, the Spa equalised after they were awarded a late penalty and the team that finished second in the league then went on to win it in extra-time.

Jack Thompson and the prolific Danny Andrews found the net for Kings.

Dave Sowerby, Dean Taylor and substitute Paul Cole replied for Spa to give captain Luke Hearn the chance to lift the trophy.

That final was the second of the day after Sailors Return and Moby Dick’s battled it out for the Les Hallett Trophy.

Unlike the other encounter, this one was a lot more straightforward and didn’t need the additional 30 minutes to decide the winners.

And it was a final that Sailors captain Reece Clarke will remember for a long time.

After a goalless first period, Clarke bagged a second-half hat-trick to take the match away from Moby Dick’s.

Substitute Alex Toms also got in on the act as Sailors Return completed a convincing 4-0 victory over their rivals.

The Spa and Sailors Return joined Market House, George Eley Trophy champions seven days earlier, as winners of this season’s Sunday League cup competitions.

Meanwhile, the Weymouth Sunday League AGM is set to take place on Sunday, June 28. A venue for the meeting is still to be decided.
