BROADSTONE 268-8 (2pts) beat WEYMOUTH 115 (5pts) by 153 runs

AN UNBEATEN century from Aslan Abbas helped Broadstone complete a comprehensive victory at Redlands on Saturday.

Abbas was his side’s main man with 108 from 81 balls in the visitors’ 268-8.

Weymouth lost their last six wickets for just 18 runs in reply as they suffered a fourth straight defeat of the new Dorset Premier League season.

Broadstone skipper Steve Trembath elected to bat first after winning the toss.

But that decision looked like it had backfired when openers Pete Russell and Jordan Watts went for a duck and one respectively.

James Brown and Dan Cook steadied the ship briefly, though when they were dismissed within a couple of runs of each other a big total did not look on the cards.

David Trotter (2-33) had Brown caught for 14 and then Simon Browne bowled Cook (15).

That brought Oliver Parsons and Abbas to the crease and they got to grips with the Weymouth attack, putting on 106 for the fifth wicket.

Both men found the boundary regularly and Parsons’ 70 off 49 deliveries included 11 fours.

He holed out to Dave Pearce off Graham Puckett (3-47) with the score on 137 and, although the Seasiders claimed three more scalps, Abbas wasn’t one of them.

The in-form Broadstone batsman then joined forced with Ross Tooley (21) to add a further 84 and really take the match away from Weymouth.

In fairness, the hosts began their reply promisingly.

Will McKay (24) and Sami Rathnayake (18) made steady starts before things turned sour.

Captain Kieron Womble mustered just one run and Jim Ryall seven, leaving the score on 59-4.

There was some respite when Browne (13) and Pearce (25) added 38 until they were both removed by Niral Kerai (2-26).

Trotter, Alex Mortimore, Peter Gordon and John Ryan all failed to reach double figures as the Seasiders collapsed to 115 all out.

Weymouth, who go to Parley this Saturday, stay at the foot of the table.

Meanwhile, Weymouth Seconds were thrashed by 160 runs at Sturminster Marshall.
