CHALLENGE Weymouth may still be a little under four months away but Portland triathlete Chris Walker knows exactly what his goal is on the day.

The 25-year-old won his age category and finished 10th overall in last year’s race, and he is after more of the same this time around.

When the 2015 event gets under way on September 13, Walker will also be sporting a British kit.

That is because this year sees Challenge Weymouth double up as the ETU European Long Distance Triathlon Championships.

The only other time Walker has represented his country was at the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in France two years ago.

Walker, meanwhile, has only raced once this year but that did result in victory at an event in Wiltshire.

And he is looking forward to taking on Challenge Weymouth again this autumn – the gruelling race is made up of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.4km run.

“My goal this year is to get on the podium for my age category,” he said. “If I prepare the right way then that should be achievable.

“And Challenge Weymouth is bigger this year as it includes the European Championships as well, and I’ll be competing for Great Britain which is good.

“I had a good race in Wiltshire the other weekend and things have been going pretty well in general, so hopefully it will go well in September too.

“Hopefully the conditions will be a bit better than last year when it was really windy and I had to make some adjustments.”

Walker, who is also a member of the BustinSkin club, has been competing in triathlons for just over four years.
