KIERON Womble has pinpointed Parley’s depth in their batting as the key to their success in recent years.

Weymouth captain Womble takes his men to Dean Park tomorrow (1pm) in the hope of ending a run of four consecutive losses.

But he knows that the hosts, eight points clear at the top of the Dorset Premier League table, will be going into the game as clear favourites.

The Seasiders, like so many other teams, have a less than enviable record against Parley over the last few summers.

When asked why they are such a dominant outfit, Womble told Echosport: “One of the main reasons is that they have always batted a long way down.

“Teams over the years, ourselves included, have taken early wickets against them but they’ve had players all the way down the order who can go big and get them out of difficult situations.

“It looks like the weather will be nice tomorrow and so the team that wins the toss is going to bat first.”

Michael Irrgang and Marco Nott come into the Weymouth side as Will McKay, David Trotter and Dave Pearce miss out.

On Irrgang’s presence and issues with selection, Womble added: “When he has played, Michael has batted really well, and he’s a good guy to have around the dressing room.

“I think I read somewhere that we’ve had 21 different players in our first four games this season, which is about five changes for each one.

“We do try really hard as a club to find people who want to play cricket but there is a general decline at the moment unfortunately.

“If you speak to any club around Dorset they would say the same, and we need as much help as we can get.”

An unbeaten century from Broadstone’s Aslan Abbas prevented the Seasiders from recording their first win of the campaign last time out.

Weymouth Seconds, struggling in County Division Three, also face a tough task tomorrow when they host second-placed Ashmore at Redlands.

Another side going in search of a win this weekend is Portland Red Triangle, who were bowled out for under 100 by Branksome & Parkstone last Saturday.

The islanders are away to Bournemouth Thirds, while Portland Seconds entertain Cerne Valley Seconds at Reforne in Division Five.

In Division Three, Beaminster host Sturminster Marshall and, back in Division Two, Cattistock go to Cerne Valley.
