JAMES Hayman was the star of the show as Dorset made a strong start with the ball in the MCCA Unicorns Championship match at Cheshire yesterday.
The thrifty 28-year-old conceded just eight runs in 10 overs, claiming five maidens and a pair of wickets as Cheshire were restricted to 139-5 on the opening day at Grappenhall Cricket Club.
Mark Wolstenholme clean bowled home opener Calum Rowe for four before Hayman saw off Alan Day for a duck and Khalid Sawas for one to leave Cheshire labouring on a meagre 20-3.
Rick Moore (28), James Drummond (30 not out) and Lee Dixon (47) chipped away to steady the ship but Dorset will harbour hopes of making further inroads when the teams return to the crease today.
