BOSS Jason Matthews reckons the opportunity to bring someone like Mark Molesley to the Bob Lucas Stadium was “too good to turn down”.

Former Bournemouth, Plymouth and Exeter midfielder Molesley penned a one-year deal with the Terras this evening to the delight of player-manager Matthews.

The 34-year-old, who has also played for the likes of Hayes, Cambridge City, Stevenage and Grays, joins Weymouth after two seasons at Aldershot.

Reacting to his club’s capture of the four-time England C international, Matthews told Echosport: “He had offers from other clubs but chose to join us and I’m absolutely delighted.

“Mark was looking to go part-time with his football as he coaches at Bournemouth and was interested in coming to us.

“It was about funding the deal from our point of view and we managed to do it.

“Mark’s pedigree speaks for itself and I’m delighted to have him on board – it was an opportunity too good to turn down really.”

Going into more detail about Molesley’s qualities, Matthews added: “He is a really creative and experienced attacking midfielder who can play out wide as well.

“He also gives us another strong voice in the dressing room which we perhaps lacked towards the end of last season.

“I saw him play at the start of last season and he was probably one of Aldershot’s best players, and that speaks volumes about him. He’s a good lad and brings something different to the table.”

Matthews stated that the signing of Molesley is “more than likely” going to be Weymouth’s last before the new campaign gets underway.
