PTFC DAMERS BLINDS 9 PTFC RICOL LEISURE 2

DAMERS Blinds stormed to the top of Portland Town’s inter-club league with a 9-2 demolition of Ricol Leisure at the BillIardsboutique.com Bowl.

Six different players scored for Damers, with Ross Jones, Lewie Dolan and Edd Barber all netting twice.

The goals soon started to flow as Chris Ginifer’s Ricol team went in search of the win that would have taken them clear in first place and Ben White’s Damers attempted to shake off the disappointment of a very late defeat to the George Inn.

New Damers signing Jones opened the scoring on five minutes with a ferocious 25-yard drive that gave Martin Rance in the Ricol goal no chance.

The Damers midfield of Dolan, Craig Wells and Jones, supported by Shane Maguire and Barber, proved too much for Ginifer’s men.

Attack after attack was created and the pressure told on 10 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Maguire was brought down.

Manager White stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick for 2-0.

Ricol struggled to contain their opponents but a tame shot from frontman Paul Cole somehow went through the hands of Damers keeper Josh Frampton to make it 2-1.

But Damers soon restored their two-goal advantage when Dolan tapped home following a scramble in the box after a Maguire corner.

Ricol, and Cole in particular, once again reduced the deficit after James Potts was adjudged to have brought down the striker in the box having just come on for Ben Miller.

Like White, the prolific Cole converted from the spot to give Ricol a fighting chance.

Despite further efforts from Barber, Wells and Jones, Rance kept the scoreline at 3-2 going into half-time.

The second half was all Damers as they went on to score six goals without reply.

On 49 minutes, Jones hit the goal of the game with a 35-yard screamer that shook the woodwork as the ball sailed in off the top of the upright.

Wells added another before Barber got the first of his brace with a close-range finish.

Dolan added his second and Damers’ seventh before skipper Maguire got in on the act for number eight and the rout was completed on 85 minutes when Barber rounded a stranded Ricol keeper for 9-2.

White said: “Some of the football we played, especially through the middle, was the best I've seen in all my time at the club. We would have beaten anyone.

“I’m delighted for my boys but obviously feel a little for the Ricol guys.

“We are part of one club and it's not nice to see a team get beat like that, but I've got to congratulate my boys, all of which were outstanding.”

Ginifer added: “We just gave up. At 3-2 down I felt we could have gone on to win but they wanted it more than us which was the most disappointing part.”

Next up is Damers against the George Inn on Saturday.
