WEYMOUTH 168 (18pts) beat WIMBORNE & COLEHILL 147 (7pts) by 21 runs

A SCINTILLATING performance from Seasiders all-rounder Simon Browne meant Weymouth signed off in style as a Dorset Premier League club.

Already relegated and bottom of the pile, the Redlands outfit travelled to Wimborne & Colehill for their final game of the 2015 season.

And Browne, who told Echosport in the build-up to the game that his bowling had been “pretty average” throughout the campaign, claimed superb figures of 6-37 from 10 overs.

That was to go with 50 earlier in the day with the bat, a score that had helped the visitors post a total of 168 all out from 46 overs and one ball.

Having made a strong start in reply, Wimborne found themselves crumbling from 67-0 to 147 all out, as Browne ran riot to remove six of the top eight batsmen.

“Putting it out there very bluntly, Simon Browne was our match-winner. To get 50 on a tough wicket and take six wickets was a great performance,” said Weymouth captain Kieron Womble.

“He has been consistently good all season. I know he said about his average bowling but it wasn’t too bad on Saturday.

“The lads rallied around him really well, we caught well in the outfield, and I was very pleased.”

Speaking further about the win, Womble added: “It is quite big for the club.

“There will be struggles next year but whatever happens it is nice to get a win at the end of this season.

“I am not going to even think about cricket until next year now. It has been such a tough year and whatever will be, will be.”

Meanwhile, both sides paid their respects to Dorset Over-50s and Wimborne cricketer Dave Dean, who passed away earlier in the week.
