CHAIRMAN Robin Satherley is excited for Portland United’s first home game back in the Sydenhams Wessex League and described the club’s fresh quest as a “whole new ball game”.

Following four testing away fixtures, a new look Grove Corner will stage the Blues’ clash with seventh-placed AFC Stoneham tomorrow (3pm).

Asked his views on what will be an historic day for the island outfit, who currently lie in second spot in the division, Satherley told Echosport: “It means everything to the football club to be back up again.

“There is a lot of buzz about the first home game.

“I think people will realise we have made a really big effort to get back into the Wessex league and they will be impressed with our facilities.

“If we could see a gate of 150 it would make us feel like we are on the right track. “I know that’s a big gate for a Dorset club in the Wessex league but it would give the lads a real lift as well as everyone who is working behind the scenes.

“I think our supporters are excited that they will see new teams coming to Grove Corner, as we are excited about hosting new opposition.

“Where we have already been we have nothing to fear. Our facilities are second to none in this league, I am absolutely certain of that and we need to be very proud of it.

“It is a whole new ball game and it is proving to be very interesting.”

And while Satherley is proud of the efforts made off the pitch in recent times, he is also extremely happy with the style of football the Blues’ are showcasing, which has brought them three wins out of their opening four games.

“It has been a very good start and Gary (Bailey) is a very good manager,” he added “He has been supported well by Kyle Critchell, they work very well together and we have a perfect team at the moment.

“I think we are playing entertaining football and I would hope our standard would challenge a lot of teams in the league.”

The Blues are set to be boosted by the return of Ed Bastick from suspension tomorrow.

Carl Mutch and Adam Linaker are also expected to be available, Carl Morris could be involved as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. Alex Halloran is set to miss out.
