Division Two

WJNC 36 ALWAYS REMOVALS 35

WJNC showed their grit and determination to snatch victory at the death against Always Removals.

This was an evenly-matched game from the off, even though Always were down to six players.

Good rebounds by Lorraine Kellaway change the game play and created an opportunity for Always to put them ahead.

However, good movement by WJNC’s Daisy Essex in the shooting circle saw the first quarter end neck and neck.

The juniors came out fighting in the second quarter with Jodie Howell scoring some impressive goals. Good space and direction by both teams saw the game stay very close, but a sudden change in their game saw Always take a two-goal lead.

Strong defence at either end of the court prevented a lot of goals being scored and kept the play switching.

Despite a key interception by GK Halle Patterson, Always shooter Henni Green continued to score goal after goal pushing her team further ahead.

Heading in to the final quarter and Always seemed confident they had the game, using their experience to move the ball beautifully around the court.

Despite this, WJNC refused to quit and continued to push, bringing the game back and winning by one goal.

Division Two

STIKA 50 CAFÉ OASIS 20

A QUICK start by Stika gave them the advantage.

This was due to Jackie Brisbane and Lauren Robertson working well together to feed the ball into the circle and immaculate shooting by Alison Caller gave them an eight-goal lead.

A confident Stika continued to look well-formed playing the ball around the court.

However, Elaine Robertson does not miss the target for Café Oasis when given the chance.

The third quarter saw a few changes in the Stika line-up and Café Oasis’ Sam Swanson took advantage of them being out of sync, feeding some impressive balls to her team-mates.

Stika continued to open the gap between the scores with key interceptions to keep the play in their favour.

Another change in the Stika team in the final quarter helped their defensive structure, and despite making a few mistakes they fought hard to win the ball back and prevent Oasis from closing the gap.

Eventually they comfortably won the game with a 30-goal difference.

Division One
WYKE SMUGGLERS 35
AYYA 20

SMUGGLERS took the points in this closely-fought contest.

Both sides made a strong start, however Ayya scored the first three goals with Jade Carroll finding her comfort zone.

With play switching so quickly, good positioning and even better shooting by Sue Cox saw her team go one goal ahead at the end of the first quarter.

Another fast-paced start by both teams, again saw Ayya take the advantage with good vision from centre Jane Snarey.

Despite Ayya’s strong play, continuous key interceptions by Wyke’s Jo Haysom kept the ball in her team’s possession.

Wyke’s experience prevailed as they managed to stay ahead in the early stages of the third quarter.

Their excellent spacial awareness helps feed strong balls into their on point shooting duo.
Despite tireless work from Ayya’s Tasha Lund and Jo Davis, it wasn’t enough to stop Tracy Moore extending Wyke’s lead.

Continual pressure in the fourth quarter from Wyke’s defence caused Ayya to make a few mistakes, but they refused to give up and continued to battle hard until the final whistle but it wasn’t enough to stop Wyke claiming the victory.

Premier Division
NEW BODY FITNESS 44
JD WETHERSPOON 25

NEW Body had the edge in this top-fight contest.

In what was expected to be a fast, strong game, JD started the stronger of the two teams with strong defensive duo Lauren Banks and Sam Rees preventing New Body’s shooters in the early stages.

Despite this, when New Body’s Emily Conning gained possession for her team she did not miss the target putting her team slightly ahead.

New Body started the second quarter with determination in their eyes and their strong passes and fast play proved a problem for some of JD’s players.

Kirsty Holmes provided good options for her New Body team-mates and had good vision when passing to others.

Despite New Body’s intense control of the court, JD continued to work hard with Steph Nation scoring when possible.

Great pressure from New Body caused mistakes in the centre court by JD and they capitalised on this, increasing their lead to 10.

During the final stages, New Body continued with their dominant play, increasing their lead and denying JD their options.

A convincing win in the end for a very enthusiastic team.
