FIGHT fans packed into Weymouth Pavilion to savour a top night of action put on by the town’s boxing club.

The Weymouth ABC dinner show featured 11 bouts in all, with every one of them being decided on points.

After 10 bells were sounded for the late Sidney Fletcher, the first of six Weymouth boxers, Oliver Carr, 13, took on Nathan Board (Torrington Police).

Carr started cautiously and Board landed some good straight shots. Late in the third Carr unleashed a 10-punch combination to send Board onto the ropes, however, the former didn’t quite do enough to get the decision.

Connor Merson, 14, then faced Blandford’s James Stockwell who claimed the first round.

Merson did better in the next but Stockwell took it and the final verdict but the Weymouth youngster won the last round.

William Mullen, also 14, was then charged with getting the host club’s first victory of the evening against Lewis Hodder (Downend).

But Hodder was allowed to dictate the contest from the start as Mullen’s timing was off.

The second round was Mullen’s best, catching his opponent with solid shots, but Hodder took it and then secured the third for a unanimous points decision.

Next up was 21-year-old Nobby Parker who fought Joel Forte of Moneyfields.

This was only Parker’s second bout and he started well behind a tight guard. Rounds two and three were very close but Forte did enough to get the verdict.

Weymouth’s Kelly Robinson then took on Sophie Baker (Solent University) and the two delivered a bout full of heavy shots.

They were level going into the last and Robinson landed an uppercut followed by a shot through the middle.

But Baker came back and to the surprise of most people was given the verdict on a split decision.

Last in for Weymouth was Maciej Sieradzki against Dem Koncius (Pound for Pound).

Sieradzki was kept very busy by a fast and fit Koncius and the latter did more than enough to win.

Other results: Jay Cooper (Moneyfields) beat Lenny Penfold (Ferndown), Osker Welwest (Hamilton Green) beat Mike Alton (Moneyfields), Dane Smith (Ferndown) beat Archie Nash (Portland), Ellis Head (Arena) beat Sonny Price (Wells), Bryce Goodridge (Basingstoke) beat Pawel Augustyniak (Hamilton Green).

Bout sponsors: Remarkable Carpets, Harold Doonan, A1 Builders, Buildrite, Turrell Electrical, Corner House Café, R Miller, Wessex Golf, Pelican Sailing, Advoco.

The club also held an auction on the night where prizes included a gold glove signed by Sugar Ray Leonard which was donated by Jason House, a large bouquet of flowers from Fiona Penny of Sunflowers, and a £40 meal for two at Weymouth Tandoori.

Boxing vests and trophies were provided by Dorset Embroidery & Printwear.
