TAEKWONDO star Thomas Carney can’t wait for what 2016 might bring after going from strength to strength over the last year.
Carney, 13, has been a member of the British taekwondo squad for eight months now, travelling all around the country to train and compete.
And the All Saints School pupil recently returned from poomsae (non-contact patterns) competitions in Sheffield and Nottingham with a clutch of medals.
“I have now been in the GB taekwondo squad for eight months and I love it,” said the Weymouth & Dorchester Taekwondo Club member.
“I have made so many new friends I never thought I would have the opportunity of meeting.
“Over the last two months I have trained in Stoke, Nottingham, Sheffield, London and Mansfield.
“(In Sheffield) I was entered in individuals and teams, and I knew this was going to be a hard competition as the people I was up against have competed in higher competitions than me. To my surprise I won silver in the individuals and gold in the teams.
“(In Nottingham) I was entered in two categories again, individuals and the teams. I got through to the final in second place and achieved bronze in the final. I also got gold in the teams.
“I have just had my last training session of the year in Mansfield and I can’t wait for 2016 and the challenges it may bring.”
