WEYMOUTH RESERVES 4 SWANAGE TOWN & HERSTON 0

TWO Oliver Clayton goals helped Weymouth Reserves bring the Swans’ nine-match winning streak to an abrupt halt at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.

Ashley Ayley and Ed Zanin also found the net as the Terras won their fourth Dorset Premier League encounter in a row.

Bradley Asagba’s Weymouth side are now up to third place in the table after they triumphed, Balti Sports lost and Hamworthy Recreation didn’t play.

“It was a good performance,” said Terras’ boss Asagba.

“We didn’t start well but settled down a bit after the first 10 minutes and went on to play very well.

“They probably could have taken the lead within the first five minutes but Steve Boore pulled off a sensational double save, it really was a fantastic piece of goalkeeping.

“That gave us a platform to go on and get a positive result against a side that beat one of the favourites for the league last week in Shaftesbury.”

Ayley got the scoring underway midway through the first half when he ran on to a ball over the top and hit a half-volley which deceived the Swans’ keeper.

Soon after it was 2-0, Clayton finishing well after a corner wasn’t properly cleared by the visitors.

The third arrived halfway through the second period courtesy of Zanin, while Clayton completed the victory with the goal of the game.

Starting with Boore, the hosts moved the ball from back to front and Clayton netted at the second attempt.

Commenting on Clayton’s ability and a couple of his other new signings this season, Asagba added: “He came from Hamworthy United and was around the first team before he came to us.

“He has got good pedigree and has fitted in really well.

“Ed is someone I was after for some time and every week shows why we wanted him.

“Sam Jackson signed over Christmas and made a big impact off the bench on Saturday.

“He is going to be a big player for this club.”

Unfortunately for Asagba, Clayton is suspended for the Terras’ next fixture, a trip to Mere Town on Saturday, after being sent off against Hamworthy United Reserves.

Meanwhile, Weymouth are six points behind league leaders Merley Cobham Sports having played a game more.
