FORMER Weymouth RFC stalwart Cedric “Spyda” Webb has passed away at the age of 67.

Webb served in the Royal Navy and was based at HMS Osprey Portland during the early 1970s when he joined Weymouth.

The prop forward played for the club for more than 20 years and also served on the management committee in various roles, eventually serving as chairman and head coach.

As well as playing for Weymouth, Webb represented the Royal Navy first XV and the Fleet Air Arm first XV.

He was heavily involved in the management of the Combined Services squad where he got to know England international siblings Rory and Tony Underwood.

Webb was a member of, and trained, the Fleet Air Arm’s Field Gun Crew and competed at the famous Royal Tournament in London.

He had been ill for some time and passed away peacefully in his sleep at his family home in Derby last Tuesday.

Webb leaves behind two children, a daughter, Isabella, 16, and son, George, 14.

His funeral takes place at All Saints Church, Stanley Common, Ilkeston, Derbyshire on Tuesday, February 9 at 2.15pm.

The wake will be held at the local servicemen’s and workingmen’s club close to the church.
