DORCHESTER T RES 2 TEAM SOLENT RES 5

RYAN Heath’s four-goal haul saw Team Solent end the Magpies' hopes of a place in the semi-finals of the John Stimpson Memorial Shield.

The striker netted a first-half hat-trick at the Avenue and went on to notch another after the break, while Ioannis Theodora was also on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Sol Ayunga, who earlier in the week had seen big brother Jonah sign for Championship outfit Brighton, replied with both of the home side’s goals.

Team Solent made the better start to the last-eight tie and they took the lead following an error in the county town defence.

A heavy touch from Magpies’ keeper Jordan Mullis allowed Heath to open the scoring, before the latter grabbed his second with a well-hit shot.

However, Dorchester struck back when Ayunga converted a Ben Sabine cross past Dion Gibbs.

But the visitors rattled in two more in quick succession to make it 4-1 at the interval and all but confirm their place in the next round of the competition.

First, Theodora found the bottom corner from a tight angle, and then Heath made the most of another mistake to complete his treble.

After Ayunga had gone close with a header in the second period, Heath put the result beyond doubt, burying an effort past Mullis to take his personal tally to four.

Visiting gloveman Gibbs did well to keep out a Sam Old header, while at the other end Theodora thought he had made it 6-1 only to see a linesman’s flag go up for offside.

Simon Evans’ hosts didn’t stop battling and they were rewarded with a consolation near the end.

A powerful strike from the edge of the area gave Ayunga his second of the night, but there was only one winner in this entertaining seven-goal contest.

The Magpies’ are due to be back in action next Wednesday when they go to Cuthbury for a Wyvern Premier Division showdown with Wimborne Town (7.45pm).

The fixture will bring together the bottom two sides in the league.
