THE South & West Dorset League celebrated in style at their presentation evening with more than 100 members attending.

The division titles were fiercely contested with the winter 2015 Premier League crown going to Bridport-based side Autobitz, with the experienced Waterside squad having to settle for the runner- up spot.

Elsewhere, the Division One title went to O’Jo’s, a team familiar with the top-flight game and featuring the most “pivotal committee member” in Mandy Grafton.

JD Wetherspoons, who a newlyformed squad, claimed Division Two and responded well to their change in dynamics, to dominate their league.

The summer 2015 season witnessed a galvanised Arethusans Netball Club — with stalwart Kelly Browne returning from knee surgery.

Belle Construction scooped the coveted summer title, while their sister club Boho (now sponsored by New Body Fitness) secured the runner-up position.

A superb achievement for the established club who seem to have found the formula for development and success, carefully made up of talented youth and experienced players.

The battle for Division One was between newly-promoted side JD Wetherspoons and PINC club team — Poachers, with the former earning back-to-back titles.

To celebrate their huge achievement Sam Rees, Linzi Gardner and the rest of the JD rising stars were handed the Sue Barras Award - for climbing the highest number of league positions.

Though, Caroline Kellaway’s contingent weren’t to miss the spotlight with a number of her squad recognised among the individual awards.

The Division Two summer title went to a team known for all the right reasons; players determined to go one better than their gallant runner-up position bagged in the winter season — Bay Fencing with close finishers Café Oasis hot on their heels.

Bay are regulars among those up for the fair play award, only this time they missed out to the Weymouth Junior Netball Club.

It was the juniors who commanded the stage with their exemplar conduct and community impact - helped by recently qualified coach Lauren Letherland who has worked alongside the diligent volunteers behind the scenes nurturing the local talent of the future.

The young side were able to celebrate with their umpire - Mel Dive, who trumped herself on last year by maintaining the overall umpire award.

Sponsors and local business providers Bay Fencing, New Body Fitness and Belle Construction were on hand to present the individual awards.

Abbie Elliott (Poachers) was recognised once again for her stand-out performances as overall players’ player and school teacher Jayne Guppy who defends for Cresta Leisure, inspired her students by scooping the accolade of umpires’ player award.

The final presentation of the evening, Louise Beals Service to Netball Award, was presented by previous winner Alison Holmes, who chose to recognise the publicity work of Kevin Frampton - the resident photographer.

Louise Bugler, said on behalf of the committee: “I would like to thank the members in attendance for marking another year of local netball and congratulate those successful in their awards. The league continues to epitomise the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign.”
