BRIDPORT interim boss Mark Carter believes if any of his side are not fired up for tomorrow’s derby with Sherborne Town, they “shouldn’t really be playing football”.

The Bees knocked the Zebras out of this season’s FA Cup all the way back in September, but the Zebras repaid the favour, having sent Bridport crashing out of the Dorset Senior Cup on penalties two months later.

Carter’s side go into the contest having drawn 1-1 at Longwell Green Sports on Tuesday evening, thanks to a late Mark Salter penalty.

And speaking about the upcoming clash with their rivals, Carter insists his side should not need much motivation to get a result at St Mary’s Field (3pm).

“I feel confident going into Saturday,” he told Echosport.

“I think, with what they (the Bridport players) have showed me on Tuesday, and the last midweek game, I am pretty confident.”

Carter, who is still set to take charge of the side as the club search for a new manager, added: “I probably won’t need to motivate them for Saturday.

“It’s one of those games which the players obviously get up for.

“If you can’t motivate a player for a local derby, they shouldn’t really be playing football should they?

“If we perform like we did on Tuesday I am pretty confident that we will come out with something.”

A win for the Bees this weekend would see them leapfrog Sherborne in the league table.
